Lifetime members of Gillfield Baptist Church, the late Abraham L. Brown and his lovely wife the late Leolia Brown, established The Mildred Brown Williams Organ Endowment Fund April 1984, in memory of his sister the late Mildred Brown Williams, Gillfield organist for 29 years. The Fund was also established in memory of their parents, the Reverend Samuel A. Brown , Gillfied pastor for 39 years, and Mrs. Clementine P. Brown.

The Fund is supervised and administered by a 3-member “Special Trustee Board”, overseen by the Pastor of the Church.

The resolution presented to the church stipulated an agreement to continue the legacy of the Gillfield pipe organ and growth of the music ministry programs. Gillfield currently has an Austin Pipe Organ of 3 manuals and 22 ranks, which serves our Music Ministry and congregation.

As brought forth by the Brown family, the mechanics of the endowment are to be upheld whereas funds permit:

  • Provide organ maintenance as needed;
  • Provide for the physical growth of the organ;
  • Secure  music for the choirs;
  • Provide scholarships for worthy music students who give service to Gillfield;
  • Support an annual dinner or appropriate fellowship event for all choir members;
  • Support any other Christian oriented mission or charity approved by the MBW Fund Board.

The future plans to continue the legacy of The Mildred Brown Williams Organ Endowment Fund:

  1. Engage the congregation
  2. Create an advisory committee
  3. Conduct organ research
  4. Publication and Web announcements
  5. Donations and Fund-raising efforts
  6. Fellowship activities
  7. Scholarship Opportunities
  8. Annual social event
